I had a beautiful weekend in Yamanashi Prefecture which is covered in mountains! I traveled to and hiked up (for the second time) Mt. Daibosatsu. This mountain has a spectacular view of Mt. Fuji.
We (myself, my co-worker, his wife, another ALT and my friend Kohl who now lives in Yokohama) traveled there on Sunday, but it was rainy, so we did some sightseeing in the Fuji area, which is absolutely packed with tourists.
The next day, we hiked on a “perfect autumn day,” called an “aki bare” (ah-key bah-ray) in Japanese.
For food, we ate soba, muscat grapes (out of this world), persimmon, oyster, tempura, and houto, which is fat udon-style noodles in soup. I had the mushroom houto, which had 4-5 different types. Really delicious, but definitely TOO MUCH FOOD! Other types of houto included snapping turtle, boar and even bear! Those were really expensive though. It was about $41 for the snapping turtle soup.
We also traveled to an herb garden, where they sold dandelion coffee, and a gem museum. Lastly, we enjoyed 2 different hot springs, as well, and WINE. Lots of it. And it was all good.
Enjoy some photos from the weekend!!! 🙂 I feel very refreshed and happy after this.
